65th session of the IALA Council

The IALA Council met for its 65th session at IALA Headquarters from 12 to 15 December 2017, under the chairmanship of Juan Francisco Rebollo, President of IALA.  Twenty one Councillors over twenty four were in attendance.

It was a busy session with 146 input papers, most of them documents prepared by the Committees at their last meetings, which the last ones for this current work period.

The Council heard a report by the Secretary-General on IALA’s achievements over the past six months, including the progress made in the IALA change of status project.  They then approved the budget for 2018 and noted the outline budget for 2018-2021 and the cash flow situation, which showed a healthy financial situation.

The Council approved 5 new and 6 revised Recommendations, 17 new and 6 revised Guidelines and 6 revised Model Courses.  In addition a new edition of the NAVGUIDE and of the conservation manual (renamed the Complementary Lighthouse Use Manual) were approved to be launched on the occasion of the IALA Conference next year.

The Council also approved the forwarding of the seven draft Standards, the Strategic Vision and the revised IALA Constitution to the General Assembly for formal approval.

Finally 15 new members joined IALA with the approval of the Council: 1 National member (the Ministry of Communication of Qatar), 11 Industrial members and 3 Associate members; two others applications for membership were provisionally accepted, subject to confirmation by the National member of the country concerned.

In the morning of Thursday 17th December, on the occasion of IALA 60th anniversary, a special session was held where the Councillors and their accompanying persons were able to hear about the history of the association before they embark for a technical visit.

The Council will meet again on 27th May 2018 in Incheon, Republic of Korea for a brief session that will conclude their current term of office.
